How FRONTLINE’s Hoosic application handles staff information and data from Google and YouTube.

Effective October 28, 2026

About Hoosic

Hoosic is a FRONTLINE tool for documentary catalog review, playlist curation, approval, scheduling and YouTube live broadcasting. The staff application is available to authorized users at hoosic.frol.us. These public information pages explain the application and its data practices.

For privacy questions, access requests or deletion requests, contact anthony_delorenzo@wgbh.org.

Information the application handles

  • Staff identity and editorial activity. Staff sign-in can provide a name, email address and access-group information through FRONTLINE’s identity provider. Hoosic uses staff identity for access controls and to associate editorial actions, reviews and approvals with the people performing them.
  • Google and YouTube authorization. When an authorized staff member connects a Google account, Hoosic stores OAuth access and refresh tokens and the connected YouTube channel’s identifier and title. Hoosic does not collect or store the account’s Google password.
  • YouTube API data. Hoosic retrieves video and channel identifiers, titles, descriptions, thumbnails, publication dates, durations, availability and other metadata needed to evaluate videos and prepare broadcasts. Broadcast records can include titles, descriptions, visibility, schedules, status and the identifiers and configuration needed to deliver a stream.
  • Editorial and media records. The application stores documentary metadata, video mappings, playlists, captions, media references, approval history and operational records associated with staff workflows.

How information is used

Hoosic uses this information to authenticate staff, maintain the documentary catalog, link videos to documentaries, curate and approve playlists, check media readiness, schedule broadcasts, and create, configure, monitor and complete YouTube live broadcasts on the connected channel.

Authorized actions can include setting broadcast titles, descriptions, visibility, thumbnails and regional restrictions, and managing the stream resources needed for delivery. Where enabled, staff-configured interstitial links can be posted to the broadcast’s live chat. Hoosic records operational results to support troubleshooting and broadcast administration.

Catalog information is also used for editorial recommendations and title suggestions. Google and YouTube data is used to support the application’s editorial and broadcasting functions; it is not sold or used for advertising.

Services and access

Amazon Web Services hosts the application, media, data storage and these public pages. AWS services also support editorial recommendations. Google and YouTube process authorization and YouTube API requests. FRONTLINE’s identity provider handles staff authentication.

Access to operational records and connected-account credentials is limited through application roles and infrastructure permissions to authorized staff and service operators. YouTube receives the broadcast content and settings that staff choose to send. A broadcast’s audience is governed by its YouTube visibility setting and YouTube’s own controls.

Retention, disconnection and deletion

Hoosic retains editorial and operational records to support the catalog, ongoing programming, troubleshooting and broadcast history. Connected-account credentials support the authorized YouTube connection until the connection is replaced or removed by an administrator.

To request removal of a connected account’s stored authorization or account-related API data, email anthony_delorenzo@wgbh.org and identify the channel or account concerned. Contact the same address to request access to or correction of information held by Hoosic.

You can also revoke Hoosic’s Google access through your Google Account’s third-party connections. Revocation stops the application from obtaining further access under that grant. Contact support to request removal of data already stored by Hoosic. Removing Hoosic’s stored data does not itself delete videos or broadcasts held by YouTube; those are managed through YouTube’s account controls.

Cookies and request information

The staff application uses cookies needed for sign-in, session management and the Google authorization flow. These public information pages do not set application cookies, load advertising or include third-party analytics scripts. Hosting services process network request information, such as IP addresses and browser request headers, to deliver and protect the service.

Google and YouTube policies

Hoosic uses YouTube API Services. Google’s handling of information is described in the Google Privacy Policy. Use of YouTube is also governed by the YouTube Terms of Service. Hoosic’s access to a Google account remains subject to the permissions granted by that account.

Changes and contact

Updates to this policy will appear on this page with a revised effective date. Direct questions about Hoosic or its privacy practices to anthony_delorenzo@wgbh.org.
